The Department of Pediatrics provides medical services to children aged 0-18 year old. It has a 3-year Pediatric Residency Training Program accredited by the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) as level 1 until June 2017. It is headed by Dr. Eva Dizon, a Pediatric Infectious Disease Consultant. The Training Officer is Dr. Evelyn Sta. Cruz, a Pediatric Neurology Consultant. Other Pediatric Training Staff consist of 2 Pediatric Intensive Care Consultants namely Dr. Anita Marasigan and Dr. Cervin Beniamino Sarte; 1 Pediatric Nephrology Consultant namely Dr. Joselito Matheus; 1 Pediatric Gastroenterology Consultant namely Dr. Randy Urtula; 1 Developmental Pediatrics Consultant namely Dr. Rita Paz Rowena de Guzman; 1 Pediatric Cardiology Consultant namely Dr. Ruzenette Felicitas Hernandez and 6 General Pediatrics Consultants namely Dr. Carolina Mirano, Dr. Estrella Olonan-Jusi, Dr. Marian April Salvador, Dr. Monina Taladua, Dr. Grace Magno and Dr. Grace Mendoza. There are 10 Pediatric Post-Residents, 4 Pediatric Residents and 5 Pediatric Pre-Residents.
The Pediatric Building is a 2-storey building located at the left side of the main building. The 1st floor contains the Pediatic ER, PICU, ORT Corner, Respiratory Ward and X-Ray Room. The 2nd floor contains the 0-2 Months Old Patients, Gastro Ward, Miscellaneous Ward, Isolation Ward and the Philhealth Ward. The Lactation Station Room is also situated at the 2nd floor for employees who wants to express their breastmilk. The Pediatric Ward has a 60 bed capacity (10 bed capacity at PICU). Strict breastfeeding policy is observed.
The Pediatric Out-Patient Department (OPD) and Welcome Teens are located at the building near the hospital gate. The OPD attends to well babies, sick babies, children and adolescents. The Welcome Teens caters to pregnant teenagers. There are Subspecialty Clinics being held at the OPD such as Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics.
The Vision of the Department of Pediatrics states that we are in the forefront of holistic patient care, comprehensive training and relevant research. It’s Missions are to render universal selfless quality pediatric care; to train and develop competent, compassionate and ethical pediatric staff; and to produce relevant and innovative researches that will impact and uplift pediatric care.
A Community Pediatric Program is one of the activities undertaken by the department. Barangay 310 of Manila is the community adopted by the department wherein a pediatric resident rotates monthly to visit selected families to provide medical services. Other training programs and activities includes attending Lactation Management Training, BLS, PALS, NRP, conventions, post-graduate courses, lectures and seminars conducted within the hospital and in other places. Notably, the Department of Pediatrics won 1st place both in the Interdepartmental Research Paper Contest and Interesting Case Report Contest last 2015. Lately, the department has an 80% passing in the diplomate exam. At present, we are accepting applicants for Pediatric Residency Training.
